We understand that there are numerous openly available textbooks in various disciplines that are either completely free or offered at very low prices. We also realize that it can be overwhelming to locate those that are just the right fit for your needs. SBCTC has identified the sites that provide high quality open textbooks and they’ve been broken down by unique traits to make the search a little smoother.

Wikibooks may not look as fancy other open books providers but it is truly a community effort. Authors voluntarily start the book writing project, and readers can nominate them to be “featured books.”

The Washington 45 are “courses selected from within the general education categories… at a public community, technical, four-year college or university in Washington state that will be able to transfer and apply a maximum of 45 quarter credits toward general education requirement(s)

It calls itself a “Store,” but they are not a publisher. Open TextBook Store provides freely and openly available math textbooks created by Washington CTC faculty.

These textbooks have proven quality and have been already used in classes at a huge number of universities and colleges. All textbooks are completely open with no strings attached.

Possibly the most widely adopted open textbook repository for higher education (Nearly 500 universities and colleges have adopted one of Openstax textbooks).

CK-12 is probably the biggest open content provider for K-12 STEM content. CK-12 provides standards-aligned teaching resources. Content is mapped to a variety of levels and standards, including common core.

Boundless provides a number of open course packages (47 course packages in Biology alone) in 22 discipline areas.
Each course package contains reading materials, PowerPoints, and assessments.

BCcampus has a curated collection of open textbooks that align with the 40 highest enrolled post-secondary subject areas in British Columbia.
